Calming the busy mind and the troubled heart

Centuries ago a very wise man came to the awareness that grief was inherent to life.

When asked to explain what he meant, he said that the loss of vigor, illness, and death were cause for grief. Even birth brought grief. Also… having to associate with what one detests and having to let go of what one loves is a cause for grief.  Misery and mental anguish, and not getting one’s own way, are a cause for grief as well. Essentially, there is hardly anything in life that isn’t accompanied by grief in one way or another.

Nyo. "As it is," the way things are, without delusion, without illusion.

Does this then mean that life is only about gloom and doom?  I hardly think so. I believe it means that for life to be filled with joy, peace and freedom from suffering, we must learn how to be in relationship with loss as a natural process — the ebb and flow — of a healthy and conscious life.

The means for doing this is perhaps the most important task in life.
